New additions to series

"Cyclical Nature"
"Balance

I've begun a series of 12 x 12 canvases. These are the first two. I thought it would be easier working smaller but find it more tedious and design elements harder to arrange than on larger canvases. That's just my opinion, although after doing a few of these i may get the hang of it.

Spiritual Roots

"Spiritual Roots"
acrylic
36" x 60"

This diptych is a variation of Divine Roots previously completed in a smaller version. Working on a large scale such as this really allows you to not only create the work but to become part of it as well.

"Journey"

"Journey"

I have completed my latest work with layers and layers of glazes to accentuate the concept of a journey guided by a gentle hand and a soft breath. I was able to achieve the luminosity i was looking for. the challenge now is going to be breaking these canvases down and reattaching them to a masonite surface to complete the presentation.

"Journey"

I've begun two new pieces. This one more complicated in design than i imagined but now transferred to nine 10 x 10 canvases held together in order to paint them all together in what i understand is called a "polyptych". Eventually i will take them apart and mount them on a piece of masonite a little larger than the overall 30 x 30. Choosing a palette was not a problem since i had the idea in my head already. I am finding though that what is in my head does not always translate visually to the canvas so we will see how close i come.

At the same time i have begun a diptych taken from a smaller version of Divine Roots. this one i'm having a harder time with for some reason and wonder sometimes why i torture myself! some days it seems i don't have a clue what i'm doing so i leave it for a while and when i come back to it i manage to work it out. again we'll see.

Happy Valentine's Day all! :)

Catching Up!

It has been a while since my last post but not because i haven't been busy working! Posted here is the larger canvas (36 x 60) version of Spirit Guide. Enlarging the 12 x 15 version took some doing but i was able to add some additional design elements i think really enhanced the original design. Something to be said for going big!

I have also been working on bringing the Divine Roots ( i believe formerly titled Nature's Vessels) to a diptych (two 20 x 60 canvases) which again will take some redesigning in order for it to work on the larger formats.

My third project is a nine panel piece (each 10" square) also known as a polyptych. While this is not a new format for me I didn't know it actually had a name!! What is new is putting each design on a different canvas and attaching them all together. So the design has to work individually as well as in concert with the others.

So, while it is cold and snowy, the plus is more time in the studio!!

A Retrospect of 2010

As i wind down the last days of preparation for Christmas I begin to look back at this year of my life. I cannot separate my art life from my personal one because it is so intertwined that to do so would diminish one or the other. Because this year has been filled with so many blessings I feel it has poured out onto the canvas. I have spent this last year exploring my creative voice and hopefully taking my art to a new level both in content and in skill. It has opened creative doors for me in a way i couldn't even imagine. And I look forward to the coming year as i continue to explore and dance with this series I call "Vessels". http://www.carolinamoonarts.net/gallery/42911/Vessels/

We have so much to be thankful for, each and every one of us, that to dwell on the challenges of both life and relationships would create a negative energy that is only a waste of our life and the moments that make it up. So my mantra for 2011 will be to focus on the positive like never before and let the negative moments fly past me like a cloud in the sky!!

I thank you all for visiting my blog and for your positive support of this artful journey and wish you only peace and creativity in the New Year!

Final works

Spiritual Guide
Acrylic
12 x 15

Freeing Her Spirit
Acrylic
16 x 20

I put the finishing touches on these last two works and have hung them with their sister paintings in a great space at The Art of Reiki, 251 River Street in Troy. The work is so appropriate for the space and we will enjoy a Holiday Open House tomorrow. It is so nice to see them all hung together in a space that enhances their colors and energy.
